ABOUT INAPPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR...

The matter has been/continues to be a somewhat prickly issue for some of us.

I'm talking about the devil-spawn things called crocs that come off the assembly line with HOLES in them. Big holes. Totally inappropriate for garden wear.

My choice for crossing the lawn to hang laundry or pick fruit or flowers? Clogs! I did have two pairs of proper clogs, made by a proper Klompenmaker, which saw me through many years of gardening.

My current clogs are not made of wood, but they slip on easily and are a very ladylike pink. So there!

Here's James Hay clogging along...

We had a few blustery days (and nights) which is to be expected around the Equinox. The freesias were blown flat on their long, straight stems! So that's another reason to find some old-fashioned ones! The main reason? Their scent.

I don't have much to say; domestic issues are priority. Oh! And essential shopping...cat food, wine, people food, hair cuts...(and there will NOT be photographic evidence of that!)

I'll leave you with the plum tree, leafing-out now and scattering her white confetti over the laundry...

  1. Clogs. Hmmmm.

There's something completely magical about cherry-blossom time, isn't there? We have yet to get through whatever winter throws at us before we get to that wonderful stage of Spring, however. Dammit! Jx

  2. Jon, this always comes to mind: "And see the cherries along The Ride, all dressed in white for Eastertide..." This line is from the famous poem "Loveliest of Trees, the Cherry Now" by A. E. Housman

  3. Soon, our garden will be going into sleep and you are getting into the exciting time! Look forward to seeing some of your garden, and your clogs. Well we can be grateful they aren't Crocs right?

    1. We have several hydrangeas here; mostly a washed-out mauve, but I bought some stuff to give them some blue bling and , apparently, Spring is the time to fling the bling ...
      And crocs are verboten!

  4. Pink clogs accepted as garden wear. But remember that it's a thin line between clogs and Crocs. Do not overstep.

    1. I'll have to buy some wellies, but for now the clogs are good. And I went out, wearing my slippers, to take some pics for our Mutual Friend...I hope everyone appreciates that I spent the next hour washing dog shit off my slippers...

  6. I had clogs. After years I burnt them in the oven, of course without the leather thing on top, what actually was falling apart.

    1. I've worn clogs for years. Winter in London was clog season...all that slushy muddy snow would ruin good leather shoes./boots, so I had a pair of clogs at home and a spare pair in my locker!

    2. The leaves are turning now that the nights are colder. Lovely picture, I look forward to the spring. I've never worn Crocs and I never will, I trust

LEO THE LEAPER

After I'd written that title, it occurred to me that it could be confusing... the word leo can be traced back to both Greeks and Romans...
