STILL FAFFING AROUND...
Well, not exactly wasting time...in looking for one thing I came across other things, as one does.
This "other thing" is a photo of an old hippie vest, made for a local "vestival."
Back in the 60s, when kids were flocking to love-ins in places like San Francisco and open-air concerts at Woodstock, the denim vest was pretty much de rigeuer.
We marched against nuclear arms, we demanded an end to the Vietnam war, we loved everyone and some of us fried a few brain cells!
Today, it's difficult to find original badges so most of what you see here are paper.
We've had a "bumper" crop of cucumber and zucchini. When I say "bumper" I'm thinking of those big, lumpy fenders on the dodgem cars at fairgrounds. So tonight's supper will probably be stuffed zucchini. Something like this https://www.sbs.com.au/food/the-cook-up-with-adam-liaw/recipe/stuffed-zucchini/wnk8451hh
And that's about it for today.
Bon apetit! And give peace a chance!

I did wonder whether after living through Swinging Sixties London "hippie" would have been your next phase... Jx
PS I never realised that in NZ, you use the American terminology, not how we say it in the UK - "vest" instead of "waistcoat" and "zucchini" rather than "courgette". Do you say "cilantro" instead of "coriander" as well? One lives and learns...
I do Love the Old Hippie Wardrobe and it is indeed hard to Source now. My Adult Grandkids wanted all mine and since I'm still an Old, now Dreadlocked, Hippie, I'm no longer a Size 1-3, so, I gave it to them and the Granddaughter has Sold Off some of my decrepit worn out Vintage Hippie Era T-Shirts, in any Condition, the Young folks LOVE them and will pay a premium! I recall we added Fabric and Embroidery to our Bellbottoms to make them flare even wider. During those Years I Lived in both Europe and the United States and there were some differences to that Era.
Jon, the "vestival" was something we did in Australia for the Arts Festival.Just a little play on words. But I'm half English and call that sleeveless garment a waistcoat. And the Italian seems to have edged-out the French these days.Mind you, these could be called marrows!
"Oh, what a beauty! I've never seen one as big as that before!" [link] Jx
I’d wear that vest!!
Yes Neena, I'm sure you would!
Those were the days, I know! Living in LA during those days and flying up to San Francisco for $19 on PSA on a whim and then flying home the next day after partying all night! Hip hugger jeans, belly chains, and scarves for a blouse. *sigh* xoxo
SAVVY, YOU WILD THING!
Just saved that recipe link because OMG. Now HANDS OFF TIM LEARY man.
Well Leary died 30 years ago, so he'll be safe now!
Let me know how the marrow/courgette/zucchini turns out.
Finding other things while looking for something else seems to be where all my time goes! I'm going to have to take a leaf from your book and construct a blog post out of what other things I find.
(I won't be doing anything with courgettes/marrows though - yeeuch!)
I was a little late for the denim waistcoat, but I so wanted one!! However, I still have my old CND badge - which I stumbled across the other day, and another badge from the 80's that proclaims Solar Power for the Future!! I had a few anti-Maggie badges - one was a pic of her smoking a joint with the caption Gone to Pot. That one got ruined when it accidentally ended up in the wash.
Sx
I don't think my waistcoat has survived; I could have sent it to you!
I love it! My heydays were in the early 90's and there was a comeback of badges on denim, although on denim jackets instead. I proudly had one. I painted a rose with thorns on the back and have a lot of pins with only a few badges. One of my favorite pins said, "My mother is the travel agent for guilt trips." Surprise! My mother hated it! LOL Cool find! I love to see stuff like this!
