FINDING MATARIKI

This will not mean much to those of you in the Northern hemisphere, obviously! But you might find it interesting.

It's looking like a bumper season for citrus as I saw lots of trees laden with fruit. These two are along b-i-l's drive.

Lemons

We're still in limbo, as far as living-out-of-suitcase goes, as the ship bringing the rest of our goods and chattels has, apparently, been to Noumea and is not due in Auckland for a few days yet.

So we continue to walk the streets when weather allows and power through library books when it doesn't!

I must say, the local library system is brilliant...books can be ordered, borrowed, returned between ALL Auckland area libraries.

And down the road we currently live on there is a native bush park, which is where we're headed today, now that the sun's doing its thing.

Yes, I'll take the camera!

It seems you three have settled in nicely.

Gulp. Sorry to hear that your move is taking so long - why on earth are your worldly goods stuck in |New Caledonia, ffs?!

I never imagined that what we call "The Seven Sisters" would also appear on the Southern Hemisphere - as a youngster, I was utterly fascinated by the night sky (still am, tbh), and the fact that this particular star cluster was so teeny-tiny in comparison to the rest of our constellations made them all the more enchanting.

Seeing those citrus trees just makes me pine for Spain 😎. I look forward to much more "vegetative photography" once you're finally sorted and back in the gardening mood... Jx

I made a start this morning! Sowed some vegetable seeds and gave "helpful" advice on hydrangea pruning. Also wandered around the garden with the camera...

Thank you for that moving and beautiful story. It puts 'our' New Year Celebrations to shame. And I am/was so grateful for subtitles.

I should learn how to take a good photograph of my night sky, as I take it for granted and really shouldn't [no light pollution here].
I'm looking forward to you being completely settled, and happy in your new home when you are reunited with your chattels.

I love the star stuff! I remember my dad pointing out the Seven Sisters to me when I was very young. I think that's what got me started.

I'm looking forward to your photos of Kirk's Bush (oooerrr!). It looks so cool (certainly compared to here, at the mo) on the boardwalks amongst all the mossy trees.

P.S. That's an overloaded-looking lemon tree! Better start on the gin etc to get them used up!

i hate moving, sweetpea, and it's even worse when you have to wait for your furnishings to arrive! The night sky is hidden here because of all the light pollution, so we're lucky to see the moon and a few stars! xoxo
