TRYING TO MAKE UP FOR MY ABSENCE...

While sifting through old stuff, I found this. It was taken when we were building our house.

The python was a premiere "rodent exterminator."

But that was years ago...

Some of my spring bulbs have produced leaves, but I'm not sure which is which as a very whirly wind blew the name tags all over the place! But that's OK. Once they've flowered, I'll lift them and replant them along the back fence next year.

I snapped off several flowering stems of Salvia leucantha when the wind threatened to decapitate them; They are still holding-up, along with a few camellias.

Salvia and camellia

   Pink camellia

The very hungry caterpillar (now ex-caterpillar!)

Un-named Pelargonium;a beautiful, glowing red. Yes, there will definitely be cuttings taken!

I call him/her "Mittens." Lives two doors down, but seems to be the boss of the street.

And that's it for now. I seem to have picked up a bug and my nose wants to drip all over the keyboard...

  2. That's a big snake!!! What type is it? And what did you do with it?
How is your new cat? Is he settling in?

    1. A harmless (to humans) carpet python. The Tripod was named Leo by SPCA staff, but Bitey seems a more apt monica! He's ruling the roost...

  3. Well, if Ms Scarlet's not going to say it, I will:
"WOW, YOU LOOK GLAM!! EVEN WITHOUT NAIL VARNISH YOU’D LOOK LIKE A MOVIE STAR!!"

    And back to normal commenting:
That pink camelia is almost unbelievable! It's so perfect and glossy that it looks plastic. Amazing!
Bitey took advantage of The Father's dithering in a doorway yesterday and ran off up the road. I heard him barking as I went to retrieve him and assumed he'd found a deer. Instead he'd cornered the neighbours cat and just stood there quivering with indignation barking at it, poor thing. "Mittens" looks like he would have given Bitey a claws out clout around the chops for being so impertinent.

    1. Mittens makes a daily inspection of what he deems HIS patch. So far the tripod has not "met" him. But one of us goes out with him when he wants to scamper around and climb trees...

  4. Impressive python, Dinah! As Mr DeVice observes, we have seen your "Movie Star" photos here at some distant time ago. It's still fab, even twice 😍.

Camellias and salvias overlapping? That's unusual - but a beautiful combination. Jx

    1. We've had a lovely sunny autumn thus far so lots of things are flowering while some have hunkered-down for winter.( If you don't already have S. leucantha, I highly recommend it.)

    2. It's on our wishlist, but I need to be sure it will be OK to grow permanently in a pot, as we have no beds in which to grow it... Jx

    3. I usually take cuttings in autumn and have had it grow happily in a pot.A fairly large pot as it can be quite tall.

  5. I'm not sure what I'd make of a snake that size living with me. I don't think Eloise cat would approve, anyway.

  6. It was put in a feed sack and released in the bush behind a neighbour's place, Zoe. And I would NOT have been that close to any of the venomous slitherers!

  7. I wish I looked that glamorous out in the garden! Love that camellia!

  8. I feel sure I remember having seen the snake photo before. Having handled a couple of pythons a few years ago, they no longer make me weep in terror, but that's about all niceties I can say about them.

    1. Just as well you weren't there the night the Siamese cat brought in a red-bellied black snake! Venomous , but OK if you get to a doc for anti venom fairly quickly. No one got bitten and those long-hnadled BBQ tongs were, after that episode, kept with the
      fire irons!

  9. Lovely photos. Mittens is a beautiful cat. Warm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
